Thunderbol­ts teams’ avoid quarters clash

Anderson, Pahang Sports School (AHPSSP), Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) and Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS), who are sponsored by Tenaga Nasional Berhad under the Thunderbol­ts initiative, will not meet each other in the quarter-finals on May 2.

“It is good that we have avoided the other Thunderbol­ts in the quarter-finals,” said Anderson coach M. Kaliswaran, whose team have been drawn to play Melaka’s MBMB Warriors.

Anderson finished second in Division One while Warriors took second spot in Division Two.

"Warriors are a very good side and we cannot take them lightly,” he added.

Meanwhile, the national boys and girls’ Under-18 teams recorded effortless wins in the Asian Youth Olympic Hockey5s qualifiers in Bangkok yesterday.

The girls’ side whipped Hong Kong 10-1 with goals from Putri Nur Batrisyia (first and 23rd minutes), Siti Zulaika Hussin (fourth, eighth and 18th), Nurmaizatu­l Hanim Syafi (fifth, 11th and 28th), and Siti Nur Arfah Nor (19th and 20th).

The boys’ team recorded an impressive 23-0 win over Cambodia.

The finallists in each category will qualify for the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aries on Oct 6-18.
