ECRL waiting for Selangor govt’s approval

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor is the only state that has yet to approve land application for the development of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, which may affect its deadline set for 2024.

The development of ECRL, which began in November, has only focused on government-owned land in

Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu, which have given the green light for the project.

However, Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd, the owner and operator of ECRL, is determined to negotiate with the Selangor government.

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak, said MRL had yet to get an approval from the state government after their last meeting last year.

“I believe the state government is studying the routes or railway lines. It is important to note that routes in Selangor are the most important ones because they connect with Port Klang. In the first meeting with Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, he was pleased with the project and agreed to implement it. However, after the meeting, there was no update from them,” he said here recently.

The construction of the 688km ECRL will link Selangor with Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan.

Under the first phase of the project, the alignment will link all major city centres in the east coast. The second phase will connect the first phase in Kelantan from Kota Baru to Pengkalan Kubor and Selangor from GombakSerendah-Jalan Kastam (Port Klang).
