Home appliances maker confident of achieving target on back of new range of products

HOME appliances and consumer electronics company Haier Group is increasing its investment in Malaysia and targeting annual sales of RM240 million this year.
Haier Malaysia managing director Shi Zhiyuan said the sales target was 40 per cent higher than last year’s turnover.
“We are confident we can achieve our sales target. We are preparing to launch more than 30 new products this year at reasonable prices,” he told NSTP Business at the unveiling of “Haier World of Appliances”, here, on Thursday.
Malaysia’s retail sector, which grew two per cent last year, was projected to grow 4.7 per cent, or RM104.4 billion, this year, according to Retail Group Malaysia.
Shi said Malaysia was one of Haier’s most important markets in Southeast Asia.
The products to be introduced this year include freshness refrigerators with triple cooling systems and dry and humidity zones, self-cleaning washing ma- chines, inverter smart cleaning healthy air conditioners and antidry smart kitchen appliances.
“Our products are energy efficient and eco-friendly. I believe consumers will favour our products because they provide solutions for a better lifestyle,” said Shi.
Last year, Haier ranked No. 1 globally for major home appliances for the ninth consecutive year, with a global turnover of 241.9 billion yuan (RM150 billion). Data released by Euromonitor shows that volume sales of Haier in major household electrical appliances in 2016 accounted for 10.3 per cent of the global market.
The Haier brand has been in Malaysia for 16 years, offering a range of home appliances.
Haier Malaysia imports most of its products and distributes them through the more than 300 retail outlets and major chain stores in the country.
