A SENIOR party publicist reveals shocking details of a sustained campaign to spread falsehoods about Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Barisan Nasional. The ‘maliciousʼ propaganda, in the form of pamphlets and videos, covers issues such as 1MDB, GST, the economy, public sector and race relations.

ADAP member has alleged that his party will distribute tens of thousands of materials containing slander against Barisan Nasional and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Amran Ahmad, 41, an assistant producer for DAP’s official online television channel UbahTV, said the “malicious” propaganda material would be disseminated in stages until polling day.

He claimed that among materials to be distributed were issues on 1Malaysia Development Bhd, the Goods and Services Tax, the Federal Land Development Authority, Tabung Haji and matters pertaining to race, insults on government agencies, economy, toll and government projects.

“During this campaign period, I got to know that DAP is intensifying the distribution of malicious propaganda material in the form of slander to topple the current government.

“I am worried that it will disrupt public order and unity, corrupt people’s minds and threaten the country’s security,” he told the media yesterday after lodging a report at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.

Amran, who is a former special officer to DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, said he did not want to be part of a scheme that spread lies and slander.

He said his unit was headed by DAP publicity secretary Tony Pua. His duties included translating publicity material and assisting in creating and distributing propaganda to topple the government.

“However, I feel that this unit has deviated from its original purpose, and is now involved in creating propaganda to topple government officials, especially the prime minister.

“I deny that I have been paid or coerced into appearing today (yesterday) and to lodge a report.

“I am prepared to face any action, including getting sacked from the party.”

Amran, who was a journalist before joining DAP in 2009 as a lifetime member, said he upheld journalistic ethics in every report he wrote.

“That is why I accepted DAP’s invitation to join it, because I want to champion the truth concerning people’s issues, especially for the Malays. But, the party has been committing slander.”

Pua did not respond to a WhatsApp message about the allegation.

In Kuala Langat, chief Khairy Jamaluddin said the opposition was planning to incite hatred against the government as polling day inched closer.

He said a similar tactic was used in the last general election, where the issue of phantom voters involving Bangladeshis was raised.

“Last time, they said 40,000 Bangladeshis were going to vote in the 13th General Election, and, this time, they will do something else.

“This is to incite hatred against the government. The people must be discerning enough to differentiate truth from lies.”
