Tunku Aziz: DAP’s decision a tactical misjudgment

-

KUALA LUMPUR: With only four days left till polling day, DAP’s decision to contest under the PKR banner has been viewed as a grave tactical misjudgment akin to political suicide by the opposition party members.

Former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim said the move created a political dilemma for the party and had thrown it into a state of panic and chaos.

“This is because they realise that their traditional hardcore Chinese voters are unable to identify with the PKR logo, which they (the voters) are not familiar with.”

He said DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang’s decision to contest the 14th General Election under the PKR banner and abandon the “rocket” resulted in party members becoming critical of the decision taken without proper debate and consultation.

“They (DAP members) resent being forced to go into this strategically-decisive election for their party under a flag of convenience, which is causing confusion, as well as ideological and emotional disquiet among supporters. This could end badly for the party.

“In an amazing but not surprising development, DAP is forced to recover its abandoned ‘rocket’ and use it.

“It now faces an impossible prospect of selling the idea that a vote for PKR is a vote for DAP to show that their links to PKR and (Tun Dr) Mahathir (Mohamad) are intact. DAP had never been in such a chaotic and confused state as now.”
