Ceramah outsiders dismissed

PASIR GUDANG: The tactic of bringing outside supporters to accompany senior opposition pact leaders during the 14th General Election (GE14) campaign period cannot be translated as support from the local community.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said this was because such supporters were not local.

Instead, the supporters came from others places nationwide to attend the programmes by the opposition

“In fact, if all the leaders are present, many will come.

“Each has its own group. It does not dampen Barisan Nasional’s spirit as we know that our support is there and secure, more so in Johor.

“I believe each area has its own dynamics,” he said after the groundbreaking for a hall for the Indian community here yesterday.

He was commenting on the effort by the opposition pact to bring together its senior leaders to a GE14 campaign in Melaka on Friday.

Khaled, who is Johor BN chairman, said a clear picture could be seen from the close rapport between elected representatives and their constituents.

He said such a rapport could not be built in 10 days, nor could it be faked, instead it was a true relationship.

“In the five years that I had been an elected representative, I have met the people and understand their needs, problems and the challenges, and, how to overcome them.

“We should not merely be talking big about national issues, but do no work in the local area.

“We (the current government) are offering ourselves not only for national issues, but also for local issues, which we champion and take care of.

“I have said this before, the opposition has placed nomad candidates, transit candidates... the aim is to get a seat, not to serve.

“Any areas that is undergoing development and progress will face various challenges, among them poverty in urban areas. We (leaders) must have the ability to resolve such problems the right way, apart from holding empowerment programmes.”
