Ti: Opposition parties devils going after the crown
KUALA LUMPUR: The people should not trust the opposition pact, which is just a “coming together of a few devils going after the crown”.
These are the words of caution by Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker to voters in the 14th General Election.
“Once they get the crown, they will fight over it. The people should not trust them,” said the MCA publicity spokesman.
Describing it as a marriage of convenience, Ti said history had shown that the opposition, especially DAP, was incapable of staying united.
“During the time of Gagasan Rakyat, DAP fought with other component parties after the election.”
Gagasan Rakyat, an informal coalition, was formed in 1990 by DAP, Parti Bersatu Sabah, Parti Rakyat Malaysia , Indian Progressive Front and Parti Solidariti Malaysia.
DAP withdrew from the coalition on Jan 25, 1995, and had teamed up with PKR, Parti Amanah Negara and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
Ti said the opposition was weak and incapable of forming a stable government, to the extent that DAP was using Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to fish for Malay votes.
“The Langkawi candidate is just a bullet. After shooting the bullet, he will just be an empty shell, abandoned by DAP.”
Universiti Sains Malaysia political analyst Professor Dr P. Sivamurugan said it was difficult to determine whether the opposition’s parties had set aside their differing political aims.
“We do not see this as a new thing. The only difference now is that Langkawi candidate Dr Mahathir is leading (the opposition pact). If they win, they will stay together. If they lose, they may fall apart.”
