Local girl wishes to continue serving Permatang Berangan
TASEK GELUGOR: A sweet-looking face, petite and friendly.
These are the characteristics of the Barisan Nasional candidate for Permatang Berangan, Nor Hafizah Othman, 42.
Although this would be her first time contesting in an election, Nor Hafizah was no stranger to the constituents as she has been serving them since she got involved in politics in 2002.
The second of seven siblings, Nor Hafizah is a lawyer who has been juggling between her career and politics for the past 16 years after she found that her passion lies in looking after people’s welfare.
Nor Hafizah, who was born in Pokok Tampang here, is considered the best candidate due to her work and support for the people.
She started her career at a law firm after graduating from International Islamic University Malaysia’s law school.
She said she started her political career in 2002 because Puteri Umno was looking for a division chief.
“I was chosen as the Tasek Gelugor Puteri Umno chief, and since then, I had to manage my time as a lawyer and politics.
“In 2005, when I started my law firm, I had more time for politics. This also meant I could spend more time with the people.”
She said her work as a lawyer, where she engaged with people of different backgrounds, prepared her as a candidate.
“My experience as a lawyer taught me a lot about politics, how to engage with my constituents and how to face my opponents. This has given me the confidence I need for my campaign.
“I hope the people here can accept and support me as a local girl who wishes to continue to serve them.”
Kampung Guar Petai resident Mokhtar Aziz, 66, expressed delight about her candidacy.
“Nor Hafizah has helped the people here even before she was chosen as a candidate.
“Because of this, we will always support her.”
