ACLOSED-CIRCUIT television (CCTV) recording has proven that PKR candidate Dr S. Streram did not collect his Election Commission (EC) candidate pass, unlike what he claimed.

The anaesthesiologist could not submit his nomination paper on April 28 and had claimed this was because he could not collect his EC candidate pass.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who is also Barisan Nasional candidate for the Rembau parliamentary seat, said Dr Streram’s claim was untrue.

“It’s a false accusation. He said he didn’t get his pass although he had gone to the EC office to ask for it.

“However, CCTV footage proved that he did not even go to collect the pass,” he said in a video message posted on his Facebook page here yesterday.

On nomination day, Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan won the seat unopposed when Dr Streram failed to submit his nomination forms at the nomination centre at the Sri Rembau Hall here.

Following this, PKR vice-president Rafizi

Ramli accused Khairy Jamaluddin of conspiring with Mohamad, linking them to EC’s action, which prevented Dr Streram from entering the centre for not having the pass.

Khairy said he was upset by Rafizi’s accusation. He said he had ordered his lawyer to take action if Rafizi failed to retract the allegations within the given time.

He said Rafizi’s accusations were serious, and he believed it was another of the opposition’s tactics to defame BN as polling day neared.

He said in the 13th General Election, there were rumours of 40,000 Bangladeshi nationals being flown into Kuala Lumpur to vote for BN. But, until today, there was no evidence to back the claim.

“Clearly, the opposition had made such an accusation to confuse the people and voters. This incident in Rantau was only to spark people’s anger.

“Enough is enough, Rafizi. I’ll see you in court. I want to stop this defamation culture that you love,” he said.

Negri Sembilan police will call up relevant parties, including Rafizi, to assist in a probe into the claim that EC and police were responsible for Dr Streram’s failure to submit his nomination papers.

State police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said the case would be investigated under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Fake News Act 2018.

“We will call Rafizi and other parties involved in the incident as soon as possible.”

He said police would also work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to trace the owner of the Facebook account who had sent a death threat to an EC employee. The threat was believed to be connected to the incident at the nomination centre.

The 36-year-old victim lodged a police report at the Rembau police headquarters onWednesday.

Noor Azam urged all parties to act more responsibly to avoid conflict.

Earlier, Noor Azam joined 1,168 police personnel in Seremban to cast their votes at the state police contingent headquarters here.
