FORMER television personality Azrinaz Mazhar Hakim, 39, and her husband, Fairos Khan Abdul Hamid, 43, have chosen Palestine as their Ramadan honeymoon destination.

The couple, who tied the knot on May 1, will make Baitulmuqaddis the first stop in their journey as man and wife.

“The visit to Palestine is not really a honeymoon. We didn’t plan one. At my age, a honeymoon is not a priority.

“But InsyaAllah, Baitulmuqaddis will be the first place we visit as man and wife,” she told the New Straits Times Press.

Azrinaz, a Berita Harian columnist, has known her husband for two decades.

Their relationship started to get serious last year.

Her marriage to Fairos was solemnised by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department’s registrar of marriages, divorces and reconciliations Hazman Hashim. She was given away by her father.

The private ceremony was held at the bride’s home and attended by close family members.

On why she chose May 1 as her special day, Azrinaz said it was because she wanted to hold the ceremony on a public holiday before Ramadan, which this year also fell on the day of Nifsu Syaaban.

“Last year, I was in Makkah during the last ten days of Ramadan. If everything goes as planned, I hope to fulfil my fasting prayers in Al-Aqsa Mosque there with my husband.

“This is a humanitarian trip with a non-governmental organisation, which will involve many iftar activities with the people of Palestine. We will visit historical sites in the city.

“Now that I am married, I feel complete and better cared for.”
