NEW Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president, Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria admits that the combination of new faces and old ones that have been chosen are his “dream team” that he has been talking about all along.

Norza explained that it is a good leadership blend that will steer OCM for the 2018-2021 term after the end of the 37th Annual General Assembly yesterday.

“I firmly believe that this is the ‘dream team’ that I have been talking about. I want a harmonious team with no individuals bigger than the team itself,” he said.

Norza won uncontested when nominations closed on April 24, and he officially took over from Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar yesterday.

National Sports Institute (NSI) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi has been chosen as OCM deputy president.

Vice-presidents, Datuk Paduka Mumtaz Begum Abdul Jaffar and Datuk Ong Poh Eng successfully defended their posts while three new faces came on board to complete the body’s top leadership.

“I promise to carry out the best possible management for OCM.

“We will need to work immediately for the Asian Games which is just around the corner.

“We will come up with a blueprint by taking into account the views of national sports associations and other important sides in helping our national athletes achieve success as well as our country’s first Olympic gold,” he added.

Norza stressed that he will continue with his other important role of BA of Malaysia (BAM) president because the sport is an integral part of planning in winning Malaysia’s first gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Norza announced that Tunku Imran will be made OCM’s honorary life president.

Norza also paid tribute to the valuable contributions of former assistant secretary-general, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi.

“In fact, today (Saturday) is a very good one which makes me very proud, as a son of a teacher is now leading the OCM, when before this, only those with royal blood or political affiliations were president,” he added.
