HUNDREDS OF OPPOSITION MEMBERS QUIT EN MASSE, SAY THEY FEEL ‘CHEATED’

They are unhappy with party’s decision to let others use its logo

- AUDREY DERMAWAN

WITH polling day tomorrow, the opposition has been dealt a blow when 300 PKR supporters in Penang quit the party yesterday.

Citing loss of confidence in the party, they claimed that they had been cheated because of unfulfilled promises by party leaders.

A. Robert, a PKR member from Valdor, said they were unhappy with the party’s decision to allow other parties to use its logo for the 14th General Election.

“That is not the right thing to do. It is unacceptable. We were staunch PKR supporters and had championed PKR’s cause. Yet, the leaders allow our logo to be used by others.”

Robert said that they were unhappy with their elected representatives, particularly Batu Kawan member of parliament P. Kasthuriraani, whom they claimed did little to help the people, especially the Indian community.

“In Valdor, there is little development. Even our roads are badly maintained. Where are the leaders? They came, made promises and left.”

He said they would no longer believe in PKR and DAP.

Robert said most of them knew who to vote for.

“Take Barisan Nasional, for example. They talk and they deliver. We are grateful to the Federal Government for assistance, such as the 1Malaysia People’s Aid.”

K. Nirmal Kumar, 34, a PKR member from Kuala Juru, said they, too, were dissatisfied with the party.

“We supported them and what did they give us? Almost nothing. It is better for us to vote for BN,” he said to cheers from 145 people.
