‘I HOPE BN GETS SUPPORT OF ALL RACES’
Hisham says he’s afraid to win without support of all races
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein hopes Barisan Nasional will win the 14th General Election (GE14) tomorrow with the support of voters from diverse racial backgrounds.
The defence minister and special functions minister said he was concerned if the victory was not based on the support of all races.
“I have stated before, I’m not afraid to lose. In politics, there is defeat and victory.
“I’m afraid to win... To win without the support of all races. I hope in GE14, we (BN) will win big, including the support and votes from the Chinese,” he said after attending the “Tok Batin Besar Pulang Bertandang” programme in Kampung Orang Asli Punjut, Kahang, near here yesterday.
Present were BN candidate R. Vidyananthan, who is defending the Kahang state seat, and Kampung Orang Asli Kahang 2 Umno branch chief Sari Achu.
Hishammuddin, who will defend the Sembrong parliamentary seat, said from his observation, the Chinese had reverted their support to BN.
He said the BN government had done its best for the people, including voters in Sembrong.
“If Chinese voters don’t want to be with us (BN), I will be sad.
“Moreover, in Paloh and Kahang, we have tried our best to ensure their needs are fulfilled.”
He hoped voters in the country would not be swayed by slander raised by certain quarters during the campaign and to exercise their right to vote wisely.
Describing himself as “Tok Batin Besar” and Vidyananthan as “Tok Batin Kecil”, Hishammudin said he would ensure the Orang Asli in Sembrong continue to get access to education and water supply.
