‘People’s doctor’ vows to help traders in Indera Mahkota

-

Improving business premises in Indera Mahkota here is on the priority list of Indera Mahkota Barisan Nasional parliamentary seat candidate Datuk Dr Johan Mat Sah.

He said refurbishing the premises, including food courts and night markets, would spur people to venture into business.

Dr Johan, who is Indera Mahkota Umno Welfare, Health and Non-Governmental Organisations Bureau chairman, said modern and new-looking business premises would become an attraction and encourage more youth to become entrepreneurs.

“During my visits to night markets and food courts, I noticed that many of them were in run-down condition.

“Therefore, I believe it is high time we introduced improvements and modern touches to attract aspiring entrepreneurs and customers.

“Small business owners can go big if they operate in a conducive environment.

“My aim is to help traders. If I am elected, issues concerning them will be raised at Parliament.

“The opposition often touches national issues but give little focus to local matters.

“Small businesses receive various assistance, so providing them with suitable areas to operate from and upgrading their premises will boost their sales.”

Dr Johan, known as the “people’s doctor” by Indera Mahkota folk, said he would hold sessions with traders to hear about their expectations and what could be done to boost their livelihoods.

“This is to create an ideal business platform where more youth will venture into business.

“Also, giving the premises a modern touch will attract positive energy.

“Some of the food courts and premises have been around for a long time. Some are exposed to flash floods. Some have poor drainage systems and limited space.

“There is a shortage of parking areas.

“We want to bring change, such as building a double-storey business complex.”

He said supporting the microbusiness industry was important as it had a high impact on the economy.

“We will look into ways to bring changes to business premises... all these issues will be raised in Parliament.”

Dr Johan, who has been going down to the ground to meet constituents over the past three years, said the promise to help micro-business entrepreneurs was among pledges he had included in his manifesto for the parliamentary constituency.

“Bringing changes will uplift traders and spur youth to venture into business.

“They can start small but must remain hungry for success.”

The Indera Mahkota parliamentary seat sees a three-way fight between Dr Johan, Pas information chief Nasrudin Hassan and PKR’s Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
