‘TALKING OF DR M’S DEATH IS TABOO’

MCA official raps Nga for using Chinese community as his defence

- AUDREY DERMAWAN

MCA has condemned Taiping member of parliament Nga Kor Ming ’s attempts to use the Chinese community as his political shield or justification for his rudeness.

MCA publicity spokesman Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said rightthinking Chinese Malaysians were hurt and offended by Nga’s insincere apology, which was obviously made under public pressure.

Ti said the DAP man was not only being insincere, but was also trying to justify his actions by claiming the Chinese community accepted and condoned his vulgarity, crudeness and rudeness.

He said Nga’s rude joke over the possible impending death of Tun Dr Mahathir Mahathir was unwarranted and distasteful.

He said DAP and Nga should not give the Chinese a bad name by being recalcitrant and using the community as his defence.

“He has been vulgar and contemptuous in his ceramah, which does not bode well with the Chinese.

“Chinese Malaysians are a decent and respectful community, and would never accept Nga’s vulgarities and disrespect for the elderly. To speak of one’s death is a taboo, what more about a man DAP has proposed to be its prime ministerial candidate.

“To speak of the impending death of an elderly person is tantamount to a curse. This is definitely ‘un-Chinese’ and strongly disapproved of in Chinese custom and culture,” he said yesterday.

Nga has been fielded as PKR’s candidate in the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election.

He will contest against Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong.

Ti said if Nga wanted to joke about the death of elderly persons, joking about Dr Mahathir gambling or playing mahjong with the late Lee Kuan Yew in an after-life or calling Dr Mahathir a horse that DAP was riding on in GE14 as he did, was unacceptable.

“If you have to make such horrible and insensitive jokes, then please do it in your own name and DAP’s. Do not bring in the Chinese or claim that the community accepts such poor behaviour.

“To even imply that the Chinese support his vulgarity is a faux pas.”

Ti said it might be part of DAP’s culture to be rude, vulgar and uncouth, and its supporters might accept Nga’s rude jokes, obscenities and name-calling, but he should leave Chinese Malaysians out of this.

He said the relationship between the Chinese and Malays were already strained and tensed as a result of DAP’s doing.

“Please don’t damage the interracial goodwill and bonding that MCA and Barisan Nasional have built over the decades since independence.

“DAP and Nga have been tactless and disrespectful of a Malay elder and leader.

“His (Nga) public statements are insensitive and bodes ill with Malays.

“DAP’s Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng, a father and son leadership, should ask Nga to apologise or reprimand him for his behaviour instead of proposing to make him a minister if the opposition wins.

“If this is the type of minister we are going to change for, then something must be wrong.”
