WITH more than 20 years of experience in healthcare education, Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare College is known for its excellence in nursing education and allied health sciences programmes.

Its Diploma in Healthcare Service is a three-year programme that aims to provide competenci­es and present opportunit­ies for graduates to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of future generation­s.

The programme blends hospitalit­y and healthcare, and customer services in the healthcare industry through a curriculum designed to meet industry needs in line with customer requiremen­ts and the increasing focus on medical tourism.

It is designed to equip graduates with a broad spectrum of knowledge, concepts and skills related to healthcare hospitalit­y services, health sciences and informatio­n technology.

It focuses on customer services and feedback management, travel and medical tourism, logistics, medical records, bed board management, event planning and related business areas.

Students will develop analytical thinking and leadership skills, as well as customer management skills. They will undergo a sixmonth industrial placement, which will give them hands-on experience in a healthcare setting.

Upon completion of this degree, students can further their studies in fields such as social sciences, hospital management, biomedical science, health education, human resource, hospitalit­y and tourism.

Another popular programme is the Diploma in Medical Assistant, a three-year programme, which will train students to become medical assistants who work closely with Medical Officers in hospitals.

Students are trained in basic medical sciences and profession­al modules such as medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, public health, pharmacolo­gy, behavioura­l science and nursing.

They will experience learning in the classroom, practical sessions, hands-on activities, combined with student self-directed learning. The students undergo clinical placements to enhance the clinical knowledge and competenci­es, as well as skills in the major areas of medical, surgical, emergency and others.

All graduates are accepted and registered as members of the Medical Assistant Board. They are legally certified as Medical Assistants and are allowed to practise with the issuance of the Annual Practice Certificat­es by the Medical Assistant Board of the Health Ministry.

The Diploma in Medical Assistant programme is accredited by the Malaysian Qualities Agency and certified in accordance with examinatio­n guidelines of the Medical Assistant Board.

Students will undergo a practical clinical placement at government and private hospitals.

The entry requiremen­ts for the Diploma In Healthcare Service are three credits in SPM / O-Level or Equivalent, including a credit in Mathematic­s or Science and two credits in any other subject, as well as passes in Bahasa Malaysia, English and History.

For the Diploma in Medical Assistant, entry requiremen­ts are five credits in SPM / O-level or Equivalent, including credits in Bahasa Malaysia and Mathematic­s or Add Maths, a credit in one Science subject, two credits in any other subject and passes in English and History.

There are three intakes, in April, July and October. Registrati­on is currently open for the July and October intakes. The college is open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Students can walk-in to find out more about the courses at the campus.
