Fun with the MPO
Its Family Fun Day series will engage the audience via an exciting programme, writes Dennis Chua
THE Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra will present its popular Family Fun Day series with two shows at 2.30pm and 4.30pm tomorrow at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, KLCC, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
Together with conductor and presenter Kevin Hathway, the MPO will engage the audience to “build a band” via an exciting programme.
This comprises the light and bouncy Anderson’s Fiddle Faddle which highlights the brilliance of the string instruments, Rutter’s Suite Lyrique which demonstrates the different moods and amazing soundscapes, ragged Botsford’s Black And White Rag which calls for a great dexterity from the pianist, and Abreu’s exotic Tico-Tico which emulates the image of a bird that flits and sweeps as it enjoys its meal.
Also included in the repertoire are Offenbach’s physically demanding dance Can-Can and the soundtracks from Pirates of the Caribbean and Ladies In Lavender.
A familiar face to the audience at DFP, Hathway co-devised the current Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music percussion syllabus and very much enjoyed being a generalist examiner for 10 years.
As an animator, he has presented many concerts in the USA and UK.
His unique micro-orchestra, Albert’s Band, specialises in family and school projects and is the resident outreach ensemble at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
The concerts are suitable for children of 4 and above.
Tickets are priced at RM50, RM80, RM100 and RM130.
