Selangor exco members to take oath today
SHAH ALAM: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has given his consent to the list of state executive councillors proposed by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
The ruler’s private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, said Azmin had presented the list in an audience with Sultan Sharafuddin yesterday.
“After going through the list and vetting it thoroughly, the sultan of Selangor has consented to the appointment of these assemblymen as state executive councillors for the upcoming term.
“The appointment and oathtaking ceremony will be held at 2pm on Monday (today) at Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah, Klang,” he said in a statement.
Munir said the complete list of exco members would be released after the ceremony.
Azmin, the 54-year-old Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman, was sworn in as Selangor menteri besar before Sultan Sharafuddin on Friday.
Meanwhile, 70 per cent of the new line-up of exco members is expected to be “new faces”.
A source said this was because it would be based on a 4:3:2:1 ratio of representatives from PKR, DAP, Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH), led by Azmin, won 51 of 56 state seats in the 14th General Election (GE14).
PKR and DAP won in all the 21 and 18 constituencies they contested, respectively, while PAN won eight of 10 seats they contested, and PPBM prevailed in six of the nine constituencies.
“So, based on election results, four state exco positions are likely to be filled by PKR, three by DAP, two by PAN, while PPBM will see one of its assemblymen selected as exco member.
“Apart from Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who contested and won the Setiawangsa parliamentary seat, other names that are expected to be dropped from the line-up are Ean Yong Hian Wah and Elizabeth Wong.
“Datuk Teng Chang Khim, Amiruddin Shari, V. Ganabatirau and Dr Daroyah Alwi are expected to be reappointed. However, the portfolio for each exco has yet to be finalised,” the source told the New Straits Times Press.
He said two newcomers had professional background in medical and civil engineering.
Azmin had on Friday announced that there would be at least four new faces in the state exco line-up.
He said they would replace the three Pas representatives as the party was not part of PH, and confirmed a replacement for Nik Nazmi.
