Make youth development a priority, new govt urged

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth development must be one of the priorities of the newly-elected government, the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) said yesterday.

Its president, Mua’amar Ghadafi Jamal Jamaludin, said the council hoped that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, youth would continue to be prosperous, united, highly-educated, skilled and patriotic.

“MBM will always support and assist the government with ideas to ensure that (efforts to ensure a bright) future for the younger generation will be… given priority,” he said in a statement.

Mua’amar Ghadafi said MBM congratulated Dr Mahathir on his appointment as the nation’s seventh prime minister, as well as Pakatan Harapan on the formation of the new Federal Government, following its win in the 14th General Election.

“MBM would like to call Malaysians to accept the election results with an open heart. What we need to do now is to develop Malaysia to be a better country.

“To all contesting political parties, congratulations on your hard work. (The) outcome of the election requires ‘checks and balances’.

“To government servants, let’s return to work and continue to implement government policies and give our best as appreciation of our beloved country.

“To the younger generation: MBM appreciates your determination in voicing out (your hopes) for the future. The slogan ‘Belia Penentu Masa Depan’ is not a slogan without idealism and effect.”

Mua’amar Ghadafi said MBM thanked the previous administration, led by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former youth and sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin, for their support of the council.
