ADAM REACHES HALFWAY UP MT EVEREST
Double amputee expected to reach Everest base camp in three to four days
DOUBLE amputee Azrulkhan Hasrullah, also called Adam, has reached Thugla, 4,600m above sea level, and is expected to arrive at the Everest Base Camp (EBC) in three or four days.
He started his climb from Lukhla, Kathmandu, on May 2. EBC is 5,350m above sea level.
Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin, or Qobin, as the expedition sponsor, said Adam went through challenges in his climb.
“Adam was limping through the muddy snow surface, with Yak faeces spotted along the way, and a lack of oxygen at the high altitude.
“He climbs about four to six kilometres daily for about eight to 10 hours,” said the organiser of the first Grand Slam Expedition (Penjelajah Grand Slam).
Qobin said Adam, who communicated through WhatsApp, said he was in good heath and in good spirit to finish the climb.
He said Adam, 26, was climbing towards Lobuche, 4,900m above sea level, and is expected to arrive at EBC in at least three days.
He urged Malaysians to pray for Adam’s safety and success.
“I am touched by Adam’s perseverance. He is an inspiration to all of us, reminding us that nothing is impossible if we put our hearts into it.”
He said the mission was proof that Malaysians, regardless of backgrounds, could achieve great feats for the country.
The mission, joined by Kelab Eksplorasi 7 Benua, is led by medical team head Aliff Abdullah, expedition manager Irwan Yusof and Adam’s coach, Ardi Dullam.
