10 to join flotilla to Gaza during Ramadan
KUALA LUMPUR: Ten activists will join the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which will leave to Palestine from Copenhagen in Denmark on May 22.
Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCare) chairman Professor Dr Hafidzi Mohd Noor said the mission, themed “Right to a Just Future for Palestine”, would take more than two months’ travel on board a Norwegian arctic fishing boat, which was renamed Al-Awda.
He said three ships from Sweden would join the trip to Gaza.
“Al-Awda will sail from Norway to Denmark (where the Malaysians will join the mission) then to a port in Germany.
“It will stop at 13 ports in 10 countries.
“The flotilla carries the international community’s hope to free Palestine from the oppression of Israeli Zionists.”
The 10 activists are Dr Fauziah Hassan, Norsham Abu Bakar, Kamarul Zaman Shaharul Anwar, Professor Dr Mohd Nazari Ismail, Dr Mohd Afandi Salleh, Zool Fadli Hamzah, Muhammad Aiman Mohd Zin, Mas Ahmad Jonid, Muaz Ruslan and Dr Muhamad Yusri Musa.
Dr Fauziah, who is member of the MyCare board of trustees, said this was her second mission after the Women’s Boat to Gaza in 2016.
She said this mission, however, could be more challenging as it would take place during Ramadan.
“This mission is aimed at putting pressure on Israel to free Palestine.
“We will campaign at each port to boost awareness about the suffering of Palestinians.”
The mission is also a second humanitarian trip for Muaz, 28.
He was a member of the Unity Convoy Ambulance for Syria last year.
He said he was proud to represent youth in humanitarian work.
“It is an honour for me to join this mission.
“I hope that my participation will encourage youth to fight for Palestinians.”
