Umno wants cabinet to be formed as soon as possible
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has called for the cabinet formation to be completed as soon as possible so the country can move on.
Its communication unit member Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said yesterday that some people were becoming concerned as there was no clear formation of a cabinet one week after the 14th General Election.
“To date, many government policies and directives were announced by those who are not ministers, which is contrary to the management of government affairs.
“Thus, it is our hope that the formation of the cabinet be held accordingly for the wellbeing of the people and country.”
He said Umno also called for the appointment of cabinet ministers to be conducted in accordance with the Federal Constitution, as well as respecting the sovereignty of rulers.
“Appointment of cabinet members made not in accordance with the constitution, or ‘cowboy style’, will result in Malaysia losing its integrity.”
Citing the appointment of DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng as finance minister-designate by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Rahman said the move had received negative feedback.
Rahman said Umno had also called upon Pakatan Harapan to govern the country well.
“We want them to immediately fulfil their promises made in their 100 days’ manifesto as the people are monitoring them closely.
“This includes giving immediate autonomy to Sabah and Sarawak, as well as its pledge of adding 15 per cent of petroleum royalty to Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu and Kelantan
He ended his statement by wishing the new government all the best, and hoped it would work hard for the country and welfare of the people.
