COMMERCIAL Crime Investigation Department (CCID) officers seized 72 bags containing cash, jewellery and other luxury items from an apartment in Pavilion Residences, near Bukit Bintang, on Thursday.

Also seized were 284 boxes of luxury handbags, such as Hermes, Birkin and Louis Vuitton.

The massive seizure from the apartment carried out as part of investigations into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) required at least six police trucks to transport them.

The raid was a continuation of the one that began on Wednesday, when CCID officers hit several residences and offices linked to Datuk Seri Najib Razak, including his home in Jalan Langgak Duta, the Prime Minister’s Office and the prime minister’s official residence in Putrajaya.

Federal police CCID director Datuk Seri Amar Singh said six premises were raided simultaneously, the other three being units at Pavilion Residences.

“One of them was the unit where we found all of the items which were seized today (Thursday). No one was in at the time we went in, but we have a search warrant issued by the courts.

“We also seized several other items, including documents which have to do with 1MDB, at the other five locations,” he said after the raid.

Asked who owned the unit where the items were found, Amar said it was owned by a Tan Sri. However, he declined to elaborate.

“I don’t need to disclose who owns the place but this has to do with 1MDB investigations. Whether or not what we seized is enough (evidence), that will be announced by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun,” he said.

Amar said investigations into 1MDB were ongoing and urged

the public and the media not to speculate on any arrest.

Asked to comment on a statement from Najib’s lawyer, Datuk Harpal Singh Grewal, that the search conducted at the Langgak Duta house, which went on for almost 24 hours, had caused emotional distress and anguish, he said his men had carried out the task in a professional manner.

On the value of the seizures, Amar said police had yet to finish counting the money and put a value on the items seized.

On media reports that the seizures included gold bars, he declined to comment.

“I can only say that I received orders to carry out investigations and search (these premises) with regard to the 1MDB case.”

Amar said everything seized would be put on display at a press conference at a later date.

The raids on the six locations began simultaneously about 10pm on Wednesday. They ended at 3am on Thursday after all the items seized from the Pavilion Residences unit were carted away.
