ANWAR: DON’T JUDGE NAJIB YET

He reminds people not to let hate, anger lead them off the path of law

- NADIA HAMID

DATUK Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the public to not pass any judgment against former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak until he has been proven guilty in a court of law.

Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan de factor leader, said any prosecution against Najib involving the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue had be in accordance with the law.

“People are saying that Najib is guilty, but we have to follow due process. I told this to (prime minister) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and he said, ‘go look for documents.’

“I agree, but it has to be in accordance with the process. Amid our feelings of hate and anger, do not let them lead us off the path of the law.

“Our country has laws and our struggle is to uphold the law, not the law of the jungle. Even if we believe that we have grounds to charge Najib, we have to follow the process, (and ensure there is) sufficient prima facie (evidence) before he is charged,” he said.

Anwar was speaking to 500 of his supporters at a breaking of fast event at his Bukit Segambut home recently, which was broadcast on YouTube by the MediaRakyat portal.

Anwar also reminded PH supporters not to use their victory in the 14th General Election as a process to seek revenge.

The people, he said, should not seek to inflict suffering on others, but be grateful for the victory.

“Don’t let our victory cloud our gratitude to Allah.

“It’s not easy to bring change. What’s important is to uphold justice,” he said.
