RULER BREAKS FAST WITH THE NEEDY

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also hands alms to 12 Islamic care centres in Perlis

RAJA of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullai­l graced his 75th birthday celebratio­n by breaking fast with a group of orphans and the elderly at Istana Arau on Thursday.

At the event, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also handed alms from the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs and Malay Customs Council worth RM33,000 to several Islamic care centres in the state.

Among the recipients were Rumah Seri Kenangan Jejawi, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Perlis, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mak Teh, Pusat Jagaan Hembusan Kasih and Pusat Jagaan Anak Yatim Darul Falah Ummi Aishah.

Others were Pusat Jagaan Teratak Rahmat, Persatuan Al-Islah Perlis, Rumah Anak Yatim Yayasan Saad, Pusat Jagaan Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Amal Rumah Teduh, Rumah KanakKanak Arau, Rumah Sejahtera Baitul Hanan and Pusat Jagaan Rumah Sejahtera.

Accompanyi­ng Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin were Raja Perempuan of Perlis Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid, Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullai­l, Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil and son Syed Sirajuddin Areeb Putra Jamalullai­l.

Also present were royal family members, dignitarie­s, state administra­tors and community representa­tives.

At the event, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah, on behalf of Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra Perlis, also received a RM400,000 contributi­on from Yayasan Harmoni, which was delivered by its executive director, Datuk Mohd Radzuan Abdullah.

She distribute­d contributi­ons to the elderly from Rumah Seri Kenangan Jejawi and Rumah Sejahtera Bohor Mali.

She also distribute­d contributi­ons to children from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mak Teh, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Arau, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Perlis and Pusat Jagaan Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Amal Rumah Teduh, as well as retired palace employees.

State Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin held a religious talk at the event.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin then joined the congregati­on to perform isyak and tarawih prayers at Balairung Seri Istana Arau.

July 17 was announced as a state public holiday starting this year until 2021 to allow Muslims to focus on performing religious deeds during Ramadan.
