Helmet saves teacher’s life

-

TELUK INTAN: Religious teacher Redhuan Embi, 32, had his helmet to thank for surviving an attack by a parang-wielding man in Kampung Sungai Haji Muhammad, near Rungkup, on Thursday.

“I don’t think I’ll be around for Ramadan this year had I removed my helmet.

“I usually remove it once I hit the village road, but I didn’t do so that day.

“I was on my way home from school on a motorcycle when I bumped into the man.

“I was about to raise my hand to greet him when I saw him holding a parang. I thought he was heading to the farm.

“However, seconds later, he went berserk and slashed my face, causing me to fall. I ran for my life, but he was hot on my heels.

“Blood was oozing from my cheek and I fell again before a team of police officers arrived to help me.

“They (policemen) subdued the man and sent me to the Sungai Batang government clinic.

“My injuries could have been worse if I had not been wearing a helmet,” said the father of four, who received 60 stitches on his right cheek.

Redhuan, who teaches at SMK Rungkup, was one of the victims of a man who ran amok on Thursday, killing three siblings and injuring four others.

“Since the incident, I am afraid to return home,” he said at his inlaw’s house in Kampung Bahagia here yesterday.

It was reported that the man, believed to be mentally unstable, killed three siblings and wounded their mother and three others.
