THE future looks bright for youngster Tun Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam as he has been selected for two Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour events in the United States following his impressive form in recent tournaments.

Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) secretary general Maradona Chok confirmed that Hakim, 19, will be joining the Podium Programme squad for the Greater Jonesboro Open in Arkansas (June 1-3) and the Lubbock Sports Open in Texas (June 8-10).

“He (Hakim) has done well recently. He finished second at the Thailand Open and took fifth spot at the Sarawak International Open,” said Maradona yesterday.

“The PBA Tour is also part of his preparations for the World Youth Championships in Michigan (July 24-Aug 3).

“Hakim definitely has potential. He is now one of the top youth bowlers in the country and we hope the exposure in the US will help him progress accordingly.”

Maradona, however, disclosed that Podium Programme member Timmy Tan, who came in second at the Sarawak International Open, will not take part in the PBA Tour.

“Timmy has a wrist problem and it was decided that he should rest instead of joining the team.

“It is just a minor injury, nothing serious. This is just a precautionary measure,” he said.

Maradona also disclosed that the National Interstate Championships will be held on July 7-14 at the Sunway Megalanes.
