Ali is CEO of Saadiq Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Standard Chartered Saadiq Malaysia Bhd (Saadiq Malaysia) has appointed Ali Allawala as its chief executive officer (CEO) effective immediatel­y.

Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Abrar A. Anwar said the bank was pleased to welcome Ali to the team.

“With his vast experience and knowledge, I am sure he is the best candidate to helm our Saadiq franchise in Malaysia,” he said in a statementy­esterday.

Ali brings with him two decades of experience and knowledge of the Islamic finance industry.

“His excellent leadership qualities and rapport with clients, regulators and stakeholde­rs alike would lead Saadiq Malaysia’s business strategy and performanc­e to greater heights,” said Abra.

Ali, who was appointed acting Saadiq Malaysia CEO in November last year, has over 22 years of experience in retail banking, both convention­al and Islamic.

He worked in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Pakistan before joining Standard Chartered Bank Pakistan in 2012. Prior to that, he had stints with Citibank and Samba Financial Group.

Ali also has extensive multiprodu­ct experience in business developmen­t, product management, distributi­on, digital banking and marketing.
