Gearing up for Raya
IF you expect me to talk politics in this article, I’m sorry to disappoint. I prefer to stick to fashion. Nonetheless, I’m excited to see a new Malaysia for the future of my babies and the nation! Despite Raya being our focus at the moment, from anticipating Raya stocks, quality check and photoshoots to showcases and everything in-between, through MKita, we managed to take some time to do something fun for Mother’s Day last week.
We came up with a Mother Daughter special edition for the MKita collection. This special edition goes up to
XXL in size because mums like their clothes to be loose and comfortable.
Oh, did I mention we had a special appearance in the campaign as well? My sisters and I decided to include the legend a.k.a. Aunty Ruby to take part in the campaign. Didn’t know that my mum had it in her to pose in front of the cameras! Now I know where I got my OOTDs flair from. LOL.
The fun shoot was also done with a few other personalities along with their beautiful mothers to celebrate this special day.
Being a mother myself, it felt as if I earned this day. Kudos to mothers and Happy Mother’s
Day!
Since 2018 is Mimpikita’s 10th anniversary, I wanted to incorporate the event with the Mimpikita Raya collection this year.
My idea is to bring back select print designs we have created and refresh the designs through cut, silhouette, detailing, colour combination as well as the overall look and feel.
Best part of this collection? Well, we shortlisted the two prints we considered the best out of all designs over the past 10 years and we gave them a new life, touch and place in a more whimsical manner.
While coming out with this collection, I had the chance to reflect on every decision- making that the team, my sisters and I did over the years.
Given that the fashion industry is fast-paced, moments of reflection give a sense of the bittersweet journey in the last 10 years.
So yes, if people were to ask me why this collection is special, I would have to say that I had so much fun recreating Mimpikita designs. It left me feeling nostalgic and sentimental. My favourite month of the year, Ramadan has just begun and I am grateful we are given another year to experience this blissful month. I’m excited for Raya too! Last Raya, I was still in confinement. I had to refrain from eating a lot of my favourite dishes. But not this year! I’m going to make sure that nobody can say “no” to me while I savour my mum’s rendang ayam, ketupat palas and laksa Johor on the first day of Raya because I didn’t have enough last year (LOL!).
Last year, I was not able to wear my own designs, so this is the year to go all out. I want to share about my personal Raya preparation this year. Maybe I should revisit my baking hobby so I don’t have “kuih tunjuk” anymore this year, especially now that my boys have grown but I’ll save that for the next article.
