MACC QUESTIONS TH STAFF IN CONNECTION WITH GRAFT PROBE
Team conducts checks and holds meetings with senior management figures
MALAYSIAN Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers yesterday visited Menara Tabung Haji in Jalan Tun Razak here, believed to be tied to its probe into graft and abuse of power.
It was learnt that MACC officers were there to conduct checks and meetings with Tabung Haji senior management figures.
However, the 15 pressmen assembled at the building’s main entrance did not spot any of the officers, despite having waited from 8am to 4pm.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki confirmed the presence of his officers at Menara Tabung Haji, but declined to elaborate.
MACC had, on Tuesday, raided the homes and office of Baling member of parliament Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.
Azeez, who was Tabung Haji chairman, on Wednesday confirmed that he had resigned from TH.
Azeez, in an interview with Utusan Malaysia, denied that he was the northern member of parliament whom MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull claimed had attempted to bribe him to drop the investigations into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) in 2015.
“I am not the person he mentioned. I have never met him. I never disturbed him from doing his investigation.
“Who am I? What power do I have?” he told Utusan.
Shukri, on Tuesday, said at a press conference that he was pressured and threatened when he first headed the probe into the 1MDB issue.
He told the media that a member parliament had approached him and offered a bribe.
Although he did not name the member of parliament, Shukri said the lawmaker came from a northern state and was known for the adage “cash is king”.
