IT is every Smurf’s favourite time of year ― spring ― and time for the annual Spring Parade. For the first time in Malaysia, Smurf fans get to see eight of the most popular Smurfs, including Papa Smurf, Clumsy, Brainy and the adorable Smurfette, live on stage.

The special Smurf show is The Smurfs Live In Genting and it is happening from tomorrow until June 24 at the Genting International Showroom, Genting Highlands.

In this new adventure, the Smurfs are busy preparing for the much-anticipated annual Spring Parade but if the evil wizard Gargamel has his way, there will not be a parade at all.

As the Smurfs are singing and dancing with excitement, the wicked Gargamel comes up with a plan to trick Mother Nature and bring an end to the festivities.

The Smurfs Live In Genting is a magical adventure that will see the Smurfs battle Gargamel and save Mother Nature, showing the power of family and true team spirit.

Get ready to cheer the Smurfs as they come to life on the grand stage with lifesized mushroom-shaped forest houses, vibrant backdrops and wonderful sing- along music.

Which Smurf will be chosen as the leader of this year’s parade? Will the Smurfs be able to save themselves? Will they save Mother Nature? Will they stop Gargamel from turning off Spring forever? Find out in this “Smurftastic” adventure.

The Smurfs, little blue elves from the magical Smurf Land, are a Belgian comic franchise created by the late artist Peyo (Pierre Culliford) in 1958.

There are more than 100 Smurf characters, and their names are based on adjectives that emphasise their characteristics, such as Jokey Smurf, who likes to play practical jokes on his fellow Smurfs.

The word “smurf” is the original Dutch translation of the French “schtroumpf”, which, according to Peyo, was a word invented during a meal with a friend, when he could not remember the word “salt”.

The Smurfs’ community takes the form of a cooperative environment based on the principle that each Smurf has something he or she is good at, and contributes it to Smurf society as he or she can.

In return, each Smurf appears to be given his or her necessities of life, from housing and clothes to food without using money.

Papa Smurf is the leader of the community. Other Smurfs are generally named after their personality disposition, or their profession, for example, Poet, Farmer, Painter and Doctor.

The first female Smurf, Smurfette, was created by Gargamel to lure the other Smurfs. Papa Smurf then changed her into a good Smurf.

The non-Smurf characters include their enemies Gargamel, his cat Azrael, and Gargamel’s godfather Balthazar.

The first live action Smurf movie was screened in 2011 with the late Jonathan Winters voicing Papa Smurf and Katy Perry as Smurfette. Hank Azaria played Gargamel.

A sequel, The Smurfs 2, was released in 2013, with the main actors reprising their roles.

As an animated series, The Smurfs debuted in the US in 1981, and in Malaysia in 1984.
