Musa denies leaving country illegally; arrest warrant out for Jamal

KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman has denied leaving the country illegally.

The Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman said he had never travelled to foreign countries illegally and that his travels had always been via proper immigration channels.

This was relayed to the media through his counsel, Zahir Shah, who issued a statement in reference to yesterday’s article in the New Straits Times titled “Trouble for Musa, Jamal if they left the country via il- legal routes: Immigration DG”.

Zahir said Musa was seeking a long overdue medical treatment, which was advised by his personal physicians.

“Musa will be returning as soon as his medical treatment is completed and his physicians are satisfied with his overall health condition.

“He reiterates that he had always been willing to give his full cooperation and will continue to do so in assisting the authorities, provided it is carried out fairly and in earnest adherence to the rule of law.”

Zahir did not mention Musa’s current whereabouts.

Recently, a man resembling Musa was said to have been spotted at the Saint Pancras International railway station in London.

A video of the man went viral, creating buzz among Netizens that Musa had supposedly left the country to avoid the authorities.

Sabah police had been on the lookout for Musa, to record his statement. This was to assist investigations into an alleged criminal intimidation against Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

Juhar lodged a report against Musa alleging that a threat had been made with regard to the latter’s swearing-in as chief minister on May 10.
