-

BUTTERWORTH: The prices of food and drinks at all 24 Pelita Nasi Kandar branches nationwide will be cheaper by between 10 sen and 30 sen following the zero-rating of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) from yesterday.

The reduction in prices will see roti canai and teh tarik, among others, being sold cheaper at the restaurants.

Pelita Samudra Pertama (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Sihabutheen Kirudu Mohamed, in welcoming the government’s move to zero-rate GST, said he looked forward to more custom ers flocking their restaurants.

He said roti canai

and teh tarik lovers had expressed disappointment due to the increase in prices following the GST implementation three years ago.

“With the zero-rating of the GST, we are delighted to reduce our prices between 10 sen and 30 sen.

“Customers can enjoy our offerings at cheaper prices,” he said at a Pelita Nasi Kandar branch in Prai here yesterday.

Sihabutheen asked for cooperation from suppliers to sell goods to them with zero-rated GST.

“If everybody does this, everybody will be happy.”

Asked to comment on a restaurant that had been ordered to temporarily closure by the Federal Territories Health Department’s Food Quality and Safety Department following a video of its workers washing eating utensils in a puddle of water by the roadside, Sihabutheen said their chain of restaurants had always prioritised cleanliness.

“All Pelita branches received recognition from the Malaysian Islamic Development Department for cleanliness.”
