KULIM: The government is looking into regulations to expedite the implementation of the two per cent Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contribution for housewives.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the government held talks with EPF and the Social Security Organisation (Socso) to iron out details of the scheme, which is one of the Pakatan Harapan government’s election manifesto.

Wan Azizah, who is also women, family and community development minister, said some clauses in the regulations that prohibited the process needed to be studied.

“There are other options, such as husbands making a voluntary contribution... so, we are looking for solutions.

“We need to work with Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and his ministry as well,” she said after visiting flood victims in Kampung Bahru Sungai Kob here on Thursday.

She also joined 300 villagers for buka puasa and prayers.

Present was Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

On Tuesday, Wan Azizah clarified that the proposed two per cent of EPF contribution for housewives would not translate into an additional contribution from the husband’s salary.

She said the two per cent would come from the current 11 per of the EPF contribution.
