‘No record of Musa, Jamal leaving country’
PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department has no record of either former Sabah chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman or Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos leaving the country.
Its director-general, Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali, said the whereabouts of both, who were wanted by the authorities, had not been established.
He added that Musa and Jamal had been blacklisted by the Immigration Department.
“If they left the country through illegal routes, they have violated the country’s laws” he said.
Mustafar was referring to Section 2 of the Passport Act 1966, which requires Malaysian travellers to produce their passports upon entry into, or departure from the country.
Under Section 5 of the Immigration Act 1959/63, no one shall, unless compelled by accident or other reasonable cause, enter or leave Malaysia, except at an authorised landing place, airport or point of entry.
Failure to do so can result in a fine of not more than RM10,000, a jail sentence of not more than five years, or both.
Musa reportedly left Sabah for Kuala Lumpur on May 14 and has been missing ever since.
Mustafar said police would look into claims that the former chief minister had been spotted in London.
He said police would wait for Musa to come forward to assist them in an investigation into alleged criminal intimidation before taking the next course of action.
Sabah police commissioner Datuk Ramli Din had said police managed to contact Musa “via a few channels” and had asked him to return home.
Jamal has six criminal cases pending against him and was charged with three other offences when he disappeared while undergoing medical treatment at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital on May 25.
According to unverified reports by Sin Chew Daily, Jamal is said to have absconded on May 27 to Pulau Karimun, an island in Indonesia.
