State BN: Azlan was rejected by the public

-

KANGAR: State Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders are rejecting Datuk Seri Azlan Man as menteri besar as the party lost more seats under him as state Umno division chairman.

State BN secretary Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin said that yesterday nine BN assemblymen and two members of parliament were opposed to Azlan, even though his appointment had received the consent of Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail.

“We are here to apologise to the Perlis ruler, and make our stand in rejecting Azlan as menteri besar,” said the Padang Besar member of parliament.

“In Padang Besar, BN won all six seats. In Arau, we won four of the six seats But, in Kangar, we won two state and lost the parliamentary seats.

“This means the people are rejecting whoever is in Kangar.”

Zahidi refused to comment on other factors.

“We will seek an audience with the Perlis ruler and brief him on the reasons why we are rejecting Azlan as menteri besar.”

Zahidi said his faction would be submitting 11 proposed candidates for the position of menteri besar, which include him and Perlis BN chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, at the royal audience.

“The names have already been mentioned.

“We are worried that we had made a mistake because, before this, we gave only one name (Datuk Seri Ismail Kassim).

“Maybe Tuanku is not happy with that candidate.

“So, we are submitting 11 candidates.

“We will explain to Tuanku. The Raja of Perlis understands democracy. We are confident there won’t be any issues.”
