THE PKR meeting set to take place on Wednesday will be a first of sorts for the party’s defacto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

It will be his first time meeting PKR candidates who contested the 14th General Election (GE14).

PKR vice-president Tian Chua said the meeting to discuss the party’s future was initiated by Anwar and his daughter, Nurul Izzah, who issued the letter in her capacity as the party election director.

“Anwar wants to meet us as he has yet to meet PKR candidates who won and lost in GE14.

“He has not met all of us since he came out of prison. Nurul Izzah, as the election director, instructed us to gather.

“All leaders, including I, will be there.

“Anwar will talk about his experience in prison and brief us on the party’s future.

“There will also be a buka puasa gathering. Some may stay for buka puasa, some may not as they have to go back to their constituencies.

“There is no major plot. We are already the government.”

It was reported that the letter issued by Nurul Izzah stated that the Election Commission, had on May 28, gazetted GE14 results.

The letter also stated: “For your information, from the 113 Pakatan Harapan parliamentarians, PKR has the most lawmakers, with 49 people or 42 per cent of PH parliamentarians.

“PKR has 67 assemblymen in all states, except for Kelantan and Terengganu.”

The meeting was initially scheduled to take place at Sri Satria in Putrajaya, the official residence of the deputy prime minister.

However, Netizens were quick to point out that while Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is the deputy prime minister, the meeting was related to PKR matters and not the government, hence it would be wrong to use Sri Satria as the meeting venue.

Nurul Izzah, via Twitter, acknowledged the concerns, and said the venue had been changed to One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya.

Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun said he had received an invitation to the meeting and that it wasn’t confidential.

“This (meeting) is normal for PKR after a general election. Since GE14, we haven’t had an opportunity to formally meet the leadership.

“Normally, during these sessions, the leadership will deliver its message and advise us to carry out our roles well.

“This is not a secret meeting.

“If it was, we would not have received an invite via email.”

In George Town, PKR Youth deputy chief Dr Afif Bahardin said the meeting was to discuss ways to fulfil PH’s manifesto.

“I believe that (Datuk Seri) Anwar will address those present.

“He is expected to share his views on the current political scenario and his experience.

“We will have a dialogue session and give our views to fulfil the pledges.

“This is more of a pemukiman event, which is carried out by other political parties as well.

“Nothing unusual will be raised.”
