8 PERLIS BN REPS MEET STATE RULER
Discussions likely on finding solution to menteri besar issue
EIGHT Barisan Nasional assemblymen sought an audience with Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail at Istana Arau here yesterday.
They are Beseri state assemblyman Rozaini Rais, Tee Chai Aan (Titi Tinggi), Siti Berenee Yahya (Mata Ayer), Azizan Sulaiman (Santan), Asmaiza Ahmad (Chuping), Roziena Ahmad (Pauh), Nurulhisham Yaakob (Simpang Empat) and Hamizan Hassan (Kayang).
However, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man and Tambun Tulang assemblyman Datuk Ismail Kassim, who was named as menteri besar candidate by the state BN, were not present.
The representatives arrived at 11am and were seen at the royal gallery before making their way to Bilik Kuning, about 30 minutes later.
None of them divulged details of their meeting with the Perlis ruler.
It is understood that the meeting was held to discuss and likely find a solution to the stalemate over the choice of menteri besar.
Sources revealed that Azlan had had an audience with Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin at Istana Kenangan in Repoh earlier yesterday.
It was understood that the eight assemblymen had apologised to Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin for being absent during the swearing-in ceremony on May 24, which earned the ruler’s wrath.
The crisis began almost as soon as the 14th General Election ended, when state BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim proposed his own brother, Ismail, as menteri besar.
However, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin rejected the proposal.
On the day of the swearing in, all nine assemblymen turned up in Kuala Lumpur, where Shahidan announced that Azlan had been sacked from Umno.
