Grocer grieves over deaths of wife, 3 kids

-

MARAN: There are no words to describe the sadness and grief felt by Mazlan Mohd Rashid after he lost his wife and three children in an accident at Km161.3 of the East Coast Expressway yesterday.

Mazlan’s two other children, Mohd Shahrul Ikhram, 20, and Fatin Nur Athirah, 19, who were also travelling in the Perodua Myvi from Kuala Lumpur to Kemaman, were seriously injured.

The grocer said his wife, Azian Abdullah, 50, daughters Fatin Najwa Mazlan, 27, and Fatin Nur Adriana, 15, and son Mohamad Danish Najmi, 10, were on their way back from a Raya shopping trip when the incident happened.

All four succumbed to severe head injuries.

Mazlan, 54, said he last spoke to her on Saturday night when she called to inform that they would leave for Cheneh from Kuala Lumpur in the morning.

“That was the last time I spoke to her.

“My youngest son’s words before he left on Friday are ringing in my ears.

“I can’t believe they are not around any more,” he said, breaking down in tears at the Jengka Hospital mortuary.

Mazlan said he was comforted by the fact that his loved ones died during Ramadan.

The remains of the four were buried at the Bandar Baru Cheneh Muslim cemetery in Kemaman yesterday.

District police chief Superintendent Norzamri Abd Rahman said investigations showed that Shahrul Ikhram, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle.

He said the Myvi crashed into a guardrail, which pierced the car.

“This caused all the victims to be pinned in the car. Rescuers took almost 90 minutes to free them from the wreckage.”
