UEM EDGENTA WINS PAN-BORNEO HIGHWAY JOB

Firm to be lead consultant to provide technical support services for pavement design optimisation

UEM Edgenta Bhd, via wholly-owned Opus International (M) Bhd, has bagged a RM60.7 million contract from Borneo Highway PDP Sdn Bhd.

Under the four-year contract, UEM Edgenta will be the lead consultant to provide technical support services for pavement design optimisation for the Pan Borneo Highway Sabah project.

“The pavement structure is a significant value component of the highway asset.

“Hence, the design optimisation, which entails the application of advanced technology and innovative asset management principles by UEM Edgenta, would enhance the economic life of the Pan Borneo Highway, as well as reduce maintenance costs for the asset owner over time,” said UEM Edgenta managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Azmir Merican.

“Opus’ involvement in the PanBorneo Highway Sabah project, a high-profile nation-building project, with positive socio-economic impact, is a demonstration of our leadership in the road and highway maintenance sector,” he added.

Azmir said its ability to optimise cost for asset owners via pavement design assessment and optimisation capabilities was the realisation of research and development carried out at its Pavement Research Centre (PRC).

UEM Edgenta invested over RM2 million in the PRC, which commenced operation in August last year, with the objective of exploring and developing new asphalt mixes and innovative techniques for pavement research and development.
