MUHYIDDIN HAS FAITH IN 1MDB PROBE TEAMS
Committee, task force have full power to investigate, says home minister
HOME Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says he will leave it to the task force and committee investigating the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue to coordinate their probe.
He said this included formulating measures in the event former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was arrested and prosecuted.
“They (the committee and task force on 1MDB) have been granted full authority to decide on the steps to be taken under the law in relation to the probe into 1MDB, SRC (International Sdn Bhd) and others,” he said at Bukit Aman here yesterday.
On May 17, former attorneygeneral Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman was appointed chairman of the 1MDB investigation committee.
Also in the committee are PricewaterhouseCoopers Risk Assurance Services partner Nik Shahrizal Sulaiman, Naqiz Partners senior partner Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin Syed Abdul Jabbar, Financial Services Authority Indonesia senior adviser Faris Rabidin and Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism director and founder Cynthia Gabriel.
On May 21, a task force investigating 1MDB was set up. It comprises former attorney-general Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull and Special Branch director Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador.
