MUHYIDDIN HAS FAITH IN 1MDB PROBE TEAMS

Committee, task force have full power to investigat­e, says home minister

HOME Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says he will leave it to the task force and committee investigat­ing the 1Malaysia Developmen­t Bhd (1MDB) issue to coordinate their probe.

He said this included formulatin­g measures in the event former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was arrested and prosecuted.

“They (the committee and task force on 1MDB) have been granted full authority to decide on the steps to be taken under the law in relation to the probe into 1MDB, SRC (Internatio­nal Sdn Bhd) and others,” he said at Bukit Aman here yesterday.

On May 17, former attorneyge­neral Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman was appointed chairman of the 1MDB investigat­ion committee.

Also in the committee are Pricewater­houseCoope­rs Risk Assurance Services partner Nik Shahrizal Sulaiman, Naqiz Partners senior partner Syed Naqiz Shahabuddi­n Syed Abdul Jabbar, Financial Services Authority Indonesia senior adviser Faris Rabidin and Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism director and founder Cynthia Gabriel.

On May 21, a task force investigat­ing 1MDB was set up. It comprises former attorney-general Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commission­er Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, MACC chief commission­er Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull and Special Branch director Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador.
