It says former Felda chairman has tarnished its image, reputation
PROPERTY company Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd has filed a RM100 million defamation and misrepresentation suit against former Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.
In the suit that was filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court here yesterday, Synergy Promenade claimed Shahrir had made misleading statements about the company between December last year and March.
Naming Shahrir as the defendant, the company said the former’s statements had tarnished its image and reputation, besides causing it to lose contracts and projects.
The plaintiff claimed that the allegedly defamatory statements were published on news and social media outlets.
The plaintiff is seeking an injunction order preventing the defendant from republishing his statements.
The company also demands that the defendant publish an apology, to be issued based on the terms agreed upon by the plaintiff, in five national newspapers.
Besides seeking RM100 million in damages, the plaintiff is also seeking general damages, interest, cost and other appropriate relief.
Present during the filing of the suit was Synergy Promenade director Datuk Marina Hashim.
The company is represented by lawyers Mohamed Reza Rahim and N. Rajivan.
Synergy Promenade was involved in the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City project and was alleged to have owned the Felda land.
Berita Harian recently published an exposé on Felda being at risk of losing ownership of a strategic piece of land worth RM270 million in Jalan Semarak here following what has been described as a “dubious deal” in 2015.
The paper had reported that the transfer of land ownership took place when Felda Investment Corporation appointed the company as its main developer.
