‘PROBE INTO APANDI IF REPORT LODGED’
Same rules apply to everyone, says Muhyiddin
FORMER attorney-general (A-G) Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali will be investigated if there are reports lodged against him, Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
He said the same rules applied to everyone, including the former A-G.
Apandi was removed as A-G yesterday, three weeks after he was told to go on leave.
He was replaced by Tommy Thomas.
Muhyiddin said this when asked if any action was expected against Apandi over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal, especially for clearing former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak of any wrongdoing.
“The Home Ministry will have to see if there are any reports lodged (against Apandi). If there is a report, it will not matter if he was the former A-G. We have to check if there is a case against him,” Muhyiddin said after visiting the Immigration Department here.
Present were Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim and Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali.
Apandi had cleared Najib of any wrongdoing in the 1MDB scandal despite the fact that the state investment firm was being investigated by authorities in at least six countries.
He was also accused by the United States Department of Justice (DoJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Swiss attorney-general of not cooperating with them in their investigations into 1MDB.
In a recent meeting of the 1MDB Special Investigation Task Force here, officials from DoJ and FBI confirmed that they requested a mutual legal assistance from Apandi on Sept 22.
It was reported that the request was postponed on grounds that it would disrupt investigations by Malaysian authorities.
Apandi has been barred from leaving the country while investigations into the 1MDB scandal continued.
