THE remains of Sultan Johor’s mother, Enche’ Besar Khalsom Abdullah, arrived at Senai International Airport at 10.30pm last night from London, the United Kingdom.

Her remains were flown in using Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s private plane and attended to by awaiting royal families and relatives, including the sultan.

Sultan Ibrahim was accompanied by officials from the Johor Islamic Religious Department for funeral preparations.

Enche’ Besar Khalsom’s remains would be brought to Bukit Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum to be laid to rest at 10.15am today.

Johor Council of Royal Court president Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli said her remains would be placed inside a room at the Grand Palace, adding that religious officials and tahfiz groups would take turns reciting the Quran from night till dawn.

“A special pedestal designed by the late Sultan Abu Bakar in 1886 will be used to ferry the coffin, which will be pulled by 40 Johor Military Force personnel.”

Rahim said the procession would leave the Grand Palace, heading 2.8km to the royal mausoleum, which would take about 45 minutes.

“The procession will be led by State Secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani from the gate of the Grand Palace to the royal mausoleum via Jalan Ayer Molek,” he said at a press conference at Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim in Bukit Timbalan yesterday.

Rahim said members of the public who wished to pay their last respects should wear appropriate and decent attire.

Enche’ Besar Khalsom died at 7.55pm on Friday at King Edward VII hospital in London at the age of 83.

She was born on Dec 2, 1935, and blessed with three princesses and a prince — Tunku Kamariah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, Tunku Besar Zabedah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
