Trespasser gets 6 months’ jail, deportatio­n over golf balls

KOTA KINABALU: Trespassin­g into restricted property to collect golf balls landed a man in jail for six months.

Najuan Ibrahim Kimbol, 23, pleaded guilty to his charge under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal tresspass at the magistrate’s court here yesterday.

He committed the offence with a 14-year-old, who also pleaded guilty, on May 31 at 3.26pm at the Marina Golf Club Sutera Habour.

Both accused, who were unrepresen­ted, have no identity cards or birth certificat­es.

In her ruling, magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie ordered the accused to serve his jail sentence from the day of his arrest, and thereafter to refer to the Immigratio­n Department for deportatio­n.

She ordered the younger accused to be produced at the Children’s Court tomorrow for his plea.

According to the facts of case, the duo had on May 31 slipped into the Sutera Habour golf course to collect golf balls.

A resort security guard and two others apprehende­d the duo and found seven golf balls on them.

Sutera Habour is a restricted area with only members and contract workers allowed into the golf course.

In another case, six men pleaded not guilty to disposing stolen handphones and stealing handphones at the Kota Kinabalu Internatio­nal Airport (KKIA).

Mohd Aqmari Ahmad and Mohd Fauzi Azis, both 24, were charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code for assisting in the concealmen­t of stolen property.

Both were accused of deliberate­ly disposing an iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, which they had reason to believe were stolen, at MasKargo KKIA at 8am on May 21.

Haimie Jamsani, 32, Mohd Sobree Matdin, 28, Mohd Sharan Iqmal Muammar Ghadafi, 22, and Mohd Shafee Buding, 27, were charged with theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

All four accused allegedly committed the offence at 11am on May 5 at the MasKargo KKIA, where they allegedly stole four Huawei handphones.

Sherron Abbie set RM2,000 bail with two local sureties for Aqmari and Fauzi, while the rest were allowed RM2,500 bail with two local sureties.

She fixed June 28 for case management on all six accused.
