A tale of two designers
Jovian Mandagie and Ivan Gunawan merge their styles into one collection, writes Kasmiah Mustapha
THE friendship between two fashion designers has led to a collaboration that depicts their journey in the industry. Both Datuk Jovian Mandagie and Indonesian Ivan Gunawan started out as couturiers. The Jovian Mandagie X Ivan Gunawan ready-to-wear collection is infused with modern-day glamour and soft looks that represent the signature roots and iconic character of each designer’s brand aesthetics with a twist of minimalism and delicacy.
Inspired by the idea of stylish women, the collection introduces new silhouettes, fabrication, unique detailing and dramatic cuts. The designs revolve around capes, mermaid cuts, bows, bell-sleeves and pleats using printed and plain crepe, complemented with subtle colour palettes.
Jovian says the time is right to merge both their designs and styles into one collection.
“Ivan has been a great mentor, friend and a source of inspiration to me in so many ways. This is the perfect year for us to come up with one collection.” Meanwhile, Ivan says he is excited to finally collaborate with Jovian as he has been waiting for the opportunity for a long
time. “The collection shows the mix of our fashion senses and it is an amazing achievement for both brands that is beyond our expectation,” he says. The collection is available in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia, with prices ranging from RM360 to RM550.
