Islamic NGOs lodge reports against activist over alleged seditious article

-

KUANTAN: Five Islamic non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Pahang yesterday lodged police reports against social activist Hishamuddin Rais, claiming that he had uploaded a seditious article on the Yang diPertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V on his blog.

The NGOs are Persatuan Kebajikan Islam dan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia Pahang, Pahang Islamic NGO Secretariat, Pahang AlQuran Volunteer Organisation, Pahang Malaysian Armed Forces Veteran Association and Pahang Sunnah Wal Jamaah Organisation.

A representative of the NGOs, Datuk Syed Nasarudin Syed Abd Hadi, said Hishamuddin’s action had tarnished the good name of the king.

“We strongly oppose the offensive remarks as the blogger has insulted Sultan Muhammad V, as well as lowered the dignity of Malay rulers.

“I urge the police to investigate the matter and take action on this,” he said after lodging a police report at the district police headquarters.

Hishamuddin, who allegedly uploaded the article on his blog www.tukartiub.blogspot.com, also inserted the alleged amount spent for the upkeep of the monarch, which Council of Eminent Persons Media and Communications head Datuk A. Kadir Jasin had uploaded on his own blog.

However, it was understood that Hishamuddin removed the statement after a screenshot of it was widely spread on social media.
