Muhyiddin: He’s the main culprit

PUTRAJAYA: Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, is the main criminal behind the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) corruption scandal, said Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin said his ministry was gathering information before it could arrest and initiate prosecution against the Penangborn businessman in connection with the 1MDB corruption scandal.

“Everybody is aware that Jho Low is the main criminal behind 1MDB, which has become the world’s biggest scandal.

“But there are a few issues which need to be resolved before any follow-up action can be taken,” Muhyiddin said at his first ministerial assembly with ministry staff here yesterday.

“Some people ask me, ‘Tan Sri, why are you not taking action?’ I said ‘Wait, let us gather all the right information’.

“But I am aware that some don’t want to wait and they want stern action to be taken on the individual not today, but yesterday.

“That’s how angry people are,” said Muhyiddin.

He said he was aware that people were questioning why there was still no action being taken on the issue as it has been three weeks since Pakatan Harapan had been governing the country.

Muhyiddin said he wanted serious action to be taken against Jho Low under the country’s penal and corruption laws, and any effort to bring the individual to justice must be expedited and cannot be shelved.

“We also need to assist various parties, including the 1MDB special taskforce, to complete the investigation.

“We need to give our full cooperation to act against the individuals involved.”

On May 18, Council of Eminent Persons chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin asked Jho Low to return to Malaysia to assist in investigations into the 1MDB scandal.

Daim reportedly said Jho Low was the most important and main individual to assist in the investigation.
