MUHYIDDIN VOWS TO IMPROVE MALAYSIA’S POSITION
Home minister wants country to be on a par with advanced nations
HOME Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday pledged to take Malaysia out from being among the “world’s most corrupt nations”.
Speaking to almost 300 staff of the Home Ministry in his first monthly address as home minister, Muhyiddin said while the ministry staff had done well to preserve the country’s security, more needed to be done.
“I want to place us on a different path now. I thank you for doing a good job in keeping this country at a respectable level.
“However, we must realise that the people who voted for a change have higher expectations. They are well informed about the successes of other more advanced countries. They are kept up to date through social media.”
Muhyiddin said he aimed to improve Malaysia’s position on the corruption index, as well as the perception of graft index.
“I want Malaysia to be on a par with advanced countries. We need to take it to the next level. Let’s not follow other countries, we should become the leaders instead.”
Muhyiddin took a jab at the previous Barisan Nasional administration for being “generous” in its efforts to tackle corruption.
“They gave an ‘A’ to everything. I’m setting new expectations now. Let’s strive towards being free of corruption.”
He reminded the ministry’s staff that he practised an opendoor policy and was receptive to new ideas.
