NAJIB, WEE SPEAK OUT AGAINST ALLOCATION
Wee accuses PH of breaking its pledge
DATUK Seri Najib Razak and MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong have spoken out against Pakatan Harapan for providing smaller allocations to Barisan Nasional members of parliament than those from the ruling coalition.
While Najib chose to bemoan the “modest allocations”, Wee was more direct, accusing PH of breaking one of its pledges.
In a Facebook post, Najib pledged to continue giving aid to his constituents in Pekan, especially the hardcore poor, despite the limited funds allocated by the Federal Government.
“I will continue to deliver zakat aid to the hardcore poor even though the allocations are modest compared with before,” said the Pekan member of parliament.
Wee also took to Facebook, according to news portal Malaysiakini, demanding fair treatment for opposition lawmakers.
“The move of the (Pakatan) Harapan government to provide an allocation to the opposition is welcomed, given that this was never done by the previous administration.
“However, the allocation for opposition members of parliament is less than 50 per cent of the amount received by the the ruling coalition’s members of parliament.
“We ask the Harapan parliamentarians, particularly DAP lawmakers, who pledged to be fair to all parliamentarians during their election campaign: Are people in Ayer Hitam, Cameron Highlands, Kota Baru, Mersing and other constituencies not paying taxes? Or they pay only half?”
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said an annual allocation of RM500,000 would be given to PH members of parliament, while BN parliamentarians would get RM100,000.
When BN led the country, opposition parliamentarians did not receive any allocation.
